🧠 ChatGPT Can Now Outthink You (Almost)

OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra, their new flagship (flagship is just jargon for most capable model 👀)

The headline: it's much better at actually using a computer for you: filling out forms, updating spreadsheets, testing software, building websites - not just chatting. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users get it in the coming days.

President Greg Brockman told reporters, "It's not unreasonable to feel that we are now in the AGI era," closing the briefing with: "Welcome to the AGI era."
Big talk, but Astra does finish computer-use tasks in about half the time of the old model, and it's noticeably better at coding.

One catch: it's also a big jump in finding and exploiting software bugs. The public ChatGPT version refuses to build hacking tools; a separate, less restricted version ("Daybreak") goes to legitimate security teams only.

If you pay for Plus or Pro, watch your model picker this week. When Astra shows up, hand it one tedious task you'd normally do yourself, and see what it does with it.

Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar announced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act today. It would permanently ban superintelligent systems and pause advanced AI until a new federal regulator writes the rules.

Sanders’s Senate release describes a recent OpenAI incident: more than 1,000 agents found a shared message board, and it took nearly two weeks to notice. The bill text is still forthcoming.

Google added Gemini Live voice to Gmail, Docs, and Keep. Ask Gmail Live for a gate number or a school email and it searches the inbox out loud. Docs Live turns a ramble into a first draft and can pull from Gmail, Drive, and Chat if you allow it. Keep Live turns a brain dump into a list.

It is rolling out this week. Gmail and Keep are for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra. Docs is Pro and Ultra. Workspace business is later. Google One currently lists Gmail Live and Docs Live on Android and iOS in the US only.

If you already pay for one of those plans, try Gmail Live on one thread you would have scrolled for.

Squad is a paid layer of named AI teammates that run on the ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok plan you already pay for. Each teammate gets a job, a schedule, and a yes from you before anything leaves the building. It is not a chat tab, and it is not Grok Bot.

The homepage has a public demo you can poke without an account. Creating one asks for an 8-digit email code, and if that tab dies the retry just says something went wrong.

Capture something with Option+1/2/3, and it opens straight into a floating preview where you can mark it up with arrows, text, blur, and pixelate, trim your recording, then copy, save, or share it (all without leaving that window).

What makes it worth a look is the self-hosting model. One-click setup for your own private cloud storage, so nothing touches the network unless you explicitly share it.

It's still in beta (requires macOS 26.4+, license terms are still being finalized), so expect some rough edges. But for anyone tired of Loom/CleanShot subscriptions, it's a genuinely compelling free alternative to keep an eye on.
