THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU CAN DO WITH AI

I WISH I KNEW SOONER

👋 Good morning.

Yesterday 42% of you said you don’t run any automations yet. Only 8% keep all of theirs running with the lid closed.

An unreleased Claude model found a Chrome attack that launched an app within seconds of a page loading, no click needed. It’s patched, but the fix only lands when Chrome restarts. That tab you’ve kept open since August can finally go.

IN 3 MINUTES, GET 1% BETTER THAN EVERYONE YOU KNOW:

  • Close the browser holes an AI just found.

  • Apply for $12K a year in cloud credits.

  • Teach Gemini your writing style once.

  • Tailor every resume, then un-scan your paperwork.

  • Make AI quiz you before it explains.

Anthropic’s Frontier Red Team says an unreleased internal Claude model found and chained real attacks in widely used software. In Chrome, loading one page ran code outside the browser’s sandbox; Google logged 62 flaws, all rated critical or high, fixed in Chrome 156. A Safari chain let any website read your cookies and history. Flaws in a locked Pixel 9 and in Windows and Linux servers are patched too. Why it matters: AI can now find these bugs in hours, and attackers have the same tools. Updates matter more than ever.

Do this: go to Settings > About Chrome. If it says “Relaunch,” click it. When it says “Chrome is up to date,” you’re protected. Then install any waiting iPhone, Mac and Android updates.

The restart button is the cheapest security tool you own.

When AI explains something to you, how much do you remember a week later?

Today's 1 I wish I knew sooner is about making AI teach you, not just explain.

On Oct 27, Oracle and OpenAI launched the Oracle AI SMB Bundle for small businesses. It pairs ChatGPT Business and Codex with US$12,000 in Oracle Cloud credits a year, for up to three years. ChatGPT itself isn’t free: you get a one-time US$50 credit per user, for up to five users, per OpenAI and Oracle. Availability is limited and every application is reviewed.

Do this: if you’re about to pay for hosting a product or an internal tool, apply before you pick a cloud.

Your cloud bill just might have gotten a three-year head start.

Gemini’s new Customize hub puts skills and connected apps in one place, per Google’s Workspace blog. Skills save your tone, voice or formatting rules so you stop repeating them in every chat. Connected apps link more than 40 outside services. It’s rolling out on web, mobile and desktop for every tier and should reach everyone this week. Most connected apps work only in US English for now.

Do this: in Gemini’s side panel, choose Customize and use the Discover tab to add a skill for your tone, plus the one app you copy-paste from most (Google’s help page).

Your style guide finally has a reader.

2 things you didn't know you can do with AI

1. 📄 Get a tailored resume and cover letter for every job, without making things up · Dossier · free, open source · self-hosted

Paste a job posting into Dossier and it drafts a tailored resume and cover letter using only facts from your saved profile. Anything you lack shows up as a gap, not an invention. The catch: you run it yourself with Docker and connect your own AI model.

2. 🔎 Turn scanned pages into clean, copyable text and tables · Unlimited OCR 2 · free, open source · browser demo

Baidu’s Unlimited OCR 2 reads multi-page documents in one request instead of page by page. Its free browser demo turns a scanned contract or receipt into Markdown text with the tables intact, ready to paste into ChatGPT or Claude. Upload an entire 8-page contract at once, and the tables stay as tables. The catch: the demo stops at 8 pages per request and runs on Hugging Face’s limited free GPU time.

Most people ask a chatbot to “explain X” and forget it by Friday. The free, open-source LearnHarness app runs a better loop: it probes what you already know, teaches one step at a time, makes you predict each step, then checks you with a question. You can run the same loop in any chatbot by pasting this first:

“Before you explain [topic], ask me 3 questions to find what I already know. Then teach one step at a time; before each step, make me predict it. End each step with one question. Next session, quiz me first.”

The catch: “next session” only works if your chatbot’s memory is on. The app remembers for you, but you bring and pay for your own API key, and your sessions go to that provider, per its site.

Explain less, remember more.
